Karin Hammar Fab 4 has existed since 2014. The group´s first CD ”Imprints” (Red Horn Records) was released 2016 and was warmly welcomed by the critics in Sweden,
In 2018, the second CD ”Circles” (Prophone/Naxos) was released and has been receiving very positive response from international jazz press such as American Down Beat, German Jazz Thing and Austrian Concerto.
a feature of the group is to collaborate with guest musicians to vary the sound and explore new musical landscapes.
In 2020, the group released ”Strings Attached” - a collaboration with the french harmonica soloist - Olivier Ker Ourio - and a string quartet.
The CD got overwhelming reviews in German press.
2023, the CD “opening2 was released - this time the music was written for the quartet and the legendary italian pianist rita marcotulli.
“Opening” was nominated for nominated for Best Swedish Jazz Release at the Swedish Music Award "Manifest" 2023.
Karin Hammar uses guitar as the harmonic ”generator” which creates an open group sound, close to both bossa nova and blues but always with the lyrical, melodical jazz as musical compass.
The guitar is played by the masterful Andreas Hourdakis and the rest of the rhythm section consists of Pär-Ola Landin (bass) and Fredrik Rundqvist (drums) who often appears in some of Sweden’s most internationally claimed groups.
Karin Hammar Fab 4 tours regularly in Sweden and internationally. The group plays often in germany, but has also toured in Switzerland and greece.
The song ”Uphill” (from the album ”Circles”) has been streamed over 10 million times.
